This spring, the Indiana Supreme Court proposed rule changes that would require attorneys to put cell phone numbers in the public record.  Attorneys across the state reacted passionately to the privacy and safety issues that would generate.  More than 700 lawyers (including Bays Family Law) submitted written comments asking the Court to kill the proposal.  Legal organizations throughout the state, including the Indiana State Bar Association, the Hendricks County Bar Association, and the Indianapolis Bar Association, filed formal objections.

On May 10, 2018, Supreme Court Justice Steve David told a gathering of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association that the rule is dead.  Describing the Supreme Court’s responsiveness to Indiana citizens, Justice David said:  “I’ll tell you what we’re not going to do.  We’re not going to make you give us your cell phone numbers.”  The Trial Lawyers erupted into spontaneous applause at this announcement.
